Astrocytes
Astrocytes are star-shaped glial cells in the central nervous system (CNS) that play a crucial role in maintaining brain homeostasis, neuronal support, and synaptic function. They regulate the blood–brain barrier, control ion balance, recycle neurotransmitters, and provide metabolic support to neurons, ensuring efficient neural signaling and brain energy metabolism. Astrocytes are also involved in neurodevelopment, synaptic plasticity, and neuroinflammation, making them essential contributors to brain health, central nervous system function, and research into neurological disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and glial biology.
